Amazing Wuxi - The 1st International Contemporary Art Exhibition - Japanese Prints

The opening of the Wuxi Cultural Center, in Wuxi, a large city just to the north of Shanghai, will be celebrated by an exhibition of some 5 dozen contemporary Japanese prints presented for the very first time in China by the Tolman Collection of Tokyo, New York, Singapore, and now China. The exhibition will open on Sunday, September 25 and will last until October 5, 2005.

This joint effort of the Tokyo and Shanghai parts of the Collection have assembled more than five dozen works by:

Toko Shinoda, both lithographs and original paintings;
Clifton Karhu, woodblocks;
Endo Susumu, lithographs;
Iwami Reika, woodblocks;
Imamura Yoshio, mixed media;
Hasegawa Yuichi, woodblocks;
Takahashi Hiromitsu, stencil prints
Kuroda Shigeki, etchings.

With these eight well-known print artists the Tolman Collection will offer, for the very first time in China prints in a wide array of styles, media and prices. Known for having a vast selection of exclusive works made for them and mostly unavailable elsewhere, the Tolman Collection has brought about exhibitions of unique Japanese contemporary prints in such far-flung places as Finland at the Retretti Art Center near Savonlina): in Cair, at the Cairo Opera House Gallery; and in Singapore at the Singapore Art Museum making The Tolman Collection the first to show Japanese contemporary art in substantial numbers in Scandinavia, to the Arab World, and in Southeast Asia.

Prints from the Collection based in Tokyo are available at their New York Gallery, and at many other galleries throughout the United States where they are among the main suppliers to galleries and private dealers of fine contemporary Japanese art.
